BLOG ROCK: GRIZZLY BEAR VS. PANDA BEAR

  Some bands sound the same, and they have similar names.  This is fertile territory for observations!
  The first observation is that Grizzly Bear is an indie rock band from Brooklyn, while Panda Bear is an actual guy who also has a project named Panda Bear.  Panda Bear(the guy) is in the band Animal Collective.
  Panda Bear the band released an album in 2000, is obviously involved with Animal Collective's records and last put out a record in 2007.   Grizzly Bear has put out three studio records, the latest of which is Veckatimeist (2009).

Self Reflection and Criticism

An important trait to possess for success in any walk of life is "self reflection."  Regardless of your age, status or occupation, being able to "take a step back" is something that distinguishes the content from the discontent. It's no coincidence that every major religion and philosophy teaches the believer to reflect, on something.

In a non-religious sense, the personal trait of "self reflection" is mimicked by the process through which we talk about artistic and academic disciplines.  To take art criticism, this topic deals with issues relating to what defines "art,"  which particular artists are "good,"  the relationship of art to society, etc.

Broadly speaking, it is more likely that someone who has been taught the process of criticism is more likely to be self reflective, and thus likely to have a better chance of being content. "Self reflectiveness" is what Oprah and Freudian Pyschiatry have in common.   It's synonymous with the concept of "self help."   In other words, a person can hone their self reflectivenessby exercising their critical facility on other objects, then applying those techniques to their own experiences.

In turn, that positive relationship might be used as a justicifaction for criticsm itself.
