Another Rockin'(TM) San Diego Weekend

That's right, I trademarked the use of the word "rockin'." I will soon be a billionaire. Of course, when I'm checking for weekend events I go right to SD Dialed In. How is it possible that the most comprehensive list of san diego music listings, day in and day out, it put together by a non professional? Shame on you, print media. Shame. You're still not even close to Rosey's listings.

I want to draw attention to a couple of shows on friday night: Grand Ole Party @ The Ken Club w/ Wild Weekend (Kelly, play your own material already!) & Thin Man. Go early for the vibe, and leave before it gets ridicel donk you lous.

The Whistle Stop has Red Pony Clock or "RPC" as I like to call them. I've been listening to their record on my ipod and I dig it. Red Pony Clock appearances are rare- like the sighting of an abdominal snow man (yes, that's a joke.)

Saturday night it is all about the Sess CD release party at the Casbah. How is it possible I do not have a copy of this record? Oh right- maybe because I haven't gone out in about six months. That could be it. I am super, duper excited to hear this record which I am quite sure will catapault the Sess right into the big leagues. Before you see the Sess, check out the early show at the Habitat featuring Roybot and Gamma Gamma. Show starts early- like 7- and they mean it, so don't be late. Also bring your own drank. And I note they are now listing their address: 1008 21st st. That's my hood! The Sess are playing with Red Feathers & Thin Man.

Yea local music!

Show Review: A Saturday Night in Hollywood

Have you actually watched A Night at the Roxbury with Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan. It's really bad, but it's funny because the backdrop is this fantasia of hollywood centered club night life. I think it's Will Ferrell's first movie?

Ok so here is a good description of the Avalon fromthis guy:

When Giant first took over, it was kinda-sorta ok; good sound, great lineups. Then my uncles, aunties and all the other senior Asians decided it would be fun to turn it into their opium den. Gross, and Avalon hasn't been the same since. The talent comes through every once in a while and the crowd is super dead.

And that about sums it up, ladies and gentlemen. The line up last night was promising enough: Ellen Allien, Sascha Funke, and even Claude Von Stroke. We saw Claude Von Stroke. Some facts:

1. lots of middle aged asian people!

2. lots of bouncers!

3. $30 parking! Yes!!!

I don't know what sin against god techno has committed to be condemned to the "Avaland" experience, but he's a mad dude. When you compare the environment you'd see ellen allien in new york, berlin, london, paris, hell, san francisco to the environment of avaland? It could have been any asian rim metropolis: tokyo, shanghai, seoul, singapore, hong kong. I guess there was something cool about the global mix of cultures but um... also maybe not.

And I don't have anything against middle aged asian people at a club- i think i wrote favorably of them when we went to Jeff Mills.

There was just no way I could last 2 hours in that club for Ellen Allien.
