ex. 1 U-31.
ex. 2 Scolari's Office becomes "The Office"; starts dj nights w/ Ikah Love.
ex. 3 Chasers sold to Blue Foot ownership.
ex. 4 Zombie Lounge becomes "Radio Room."
ex. 5 Pink Elephant
ex. 6 Blue Foot Lounge
ex. 7 unnamed building next to Whistle Stop owned by Sam Shamus
Let's identify the important trends from these four exhibits.
First, shift of night-life related investment north and east of the gaslamp area. Good or bad? Bad: displaces existing sub cultures, brings in "undesirables" from Gaslamp area.
Good: Demonstrates increased significance of inner San Diego as viable, vibrant neighborhood area.
Bad: Some shows have to be rescheduled/moved/cancelled.
Good: Significant upgrades in terms of equipment, new energy in ownership, management. I think this is a key point.
Bad: Proliferation of dj nights.
Good: DJ nights demonstrate some ambition among new ownership.
And something which is neither good nor bad but just fact: Existing inner neighborhood bars do not use their liquor licenses to derive maximum financial benefit given the income level or surrounding areas. A liquor license is a valuable asset, and you don't make money serving $3 budweiser & alcoholics. Watch out, dive bars everywhere in inner san diego- your days are numbered.
